Try A Trade (Construction)

Course Overview

This industry immersion program is designed to promote the construction industry to the next generation. Proudly supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB)‚ the program provides a pathway to VET in Schools programs and apprenticeships for current high school students.
 
Courses are delivered face-to-face and in a small group-based learning environment exposing students to a minimum of two different trades including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, bricklaying, and painting.

 

Units of Competency

This program is non accredited, however students enrolled in this course are also provided a pathway to gaining CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card).
 

Cost

Free. This course is proudly subsidised by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).



 

Delivery

Duration: 4 days, 1 day per week over 4 weeks, 9:00am – 3:00pm
Delivery Mode: Face-to-Face

 

Entry Requirements/Pre-requisites

   •  Must be 15 years of age or older
   •  Must be currently enrolled at a high school
   •  Learners must demonstrate the ability to understand and use basic Language, Literacy and Numeracy.
   •  All learners must provide their USI upon enrolment
   •  All participants must provide photo identification upon enrolment

 

Inhouse Student Support

SYC identifies individual support requirements during the initial intake/enrolment process. During your course, your trainer/assessor will provide based on your requirements. SYC also can provide additional support for LLND, language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy skills where identified during initial intake processes, or during your course.
 
Our students are encouraged to seek support and discuss their learning needs and requirements with their trainer and assessor so that the right support strategies are put in place for the best possibility learning outcome.

 

Accreditation and Employment Pathways

Accreditation
A certificate of Attendance will be issued to students who satisfy the attendance requirements of the course.
 
Students who enrol and successfully complete a CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card) workshop, A Statement of Attainment (SOA) and White Card will also be issued to the learner.
 
A White Card is formal recognition that an individual has attended Work Health and Safety Induction training and is a requirement to work onsite in the Building and Construction Industry.

 

Employment Pathways

The program provides a pathway to VET in Schools programs and apprenticeships pathways for current high school students.

 

What will I need?

All course learning resources, equipment and tools used for assessment are provided by SYC and are at no cost to students enrolled in the course. Specialised PPE required to complete assessment task will also be provided by SYC.
