Course Overview

Safe Environments for Children and Young People – Through their eyes" is a South Australian training program for staff and volunteers who work with children and young people to help them recognize and respond to risks of harm, abuse, or neglect.
 
The course, aligned with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017, teaches participants their mandatory reporting obligations and how to create safe, child-friendly environments.
 
The purpose of this course is to equip staff and volunteers with the knowledge and skills to ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people.
 
Course Outline:

   •  Recognizing indicators of harm, abuse, or neglect.
   •  Understanding the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 and legal obligations.
   •  Knowing the process for reporting to the Child Abuse Report Line (CARL).
   •  Understanding trauma-informed behaviours and appropriate responses to disclosures.

   •  No mandated entry requirements to participate in the 'Safe Environments for Children and Young People – Through Their Eyes' training  

 

What will I need?

 All course learning resources, equipment and tools used for assessment are provided by SYC and are at no cost to students enrolled in the course.
