Standard MHFA Refresher

Course Overview

The Standard MHFA Refresher course is a 4-hour face-to-face course that allows people who have previously completed the standard mental health first aid course (MHFA) to refresh their knowledge and skills. Participants will refresh their knowledge based on current research, work through more complex Mental Health First Aid interactions, and practise their MHFA skills across a range of mental health problems and crisis situations.

For people accredited in MHFA, the refresher courses offer an opportunity to extend their accreditation for a further 3 years on completion of a short assessment following course completion.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training teaches individuals how to recognise, understand, and respond to someone developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis, providing initial support and guidance until professional help is received or the situation resolves.

The course provides practical skills and knowledge to help people support others in workplaces, schools, and communities, reduce mental health stigma, and encourage pathways to professional and self-help support.
 

Learning Objectives

• Refresh knowledge of the signs and symptoms of, and evidence-based treatments for, mental health problems.
• Refresh knowledge of the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan, ALGEE.
• Learn the 3 Key Actions to take when someone is feeling suicidal.
• Practise MHFA skills in a safe environment and receive feedback.

 
 

Cost

Fee For Service: $175.00 per participant
 
 

Delivery

Duration: 4 hours with a 15mins break, 9:30am – 1:30pm
Delivery Mode: Face-to-Face (Classroom)
 
Due to the sensitivity of this training and the topics explored, participants are in a classroom-based setting so we can provide you with a supportive and interactive learning environment.
 
 

Entry Requirements/Pre-requisites

Participants need to have completed an eligible full MHFA course and the accreditation assessment within the last 3 years.

Participants will also need to provide a copy of their Certificate of Accreditation to the Instructor. Participants can access this through the MHFA website if required.

Participants should choose the same Refresher course as their original course.
 
The Standard MHFA Refresher is available to eligible accredited MHFAiders who completed:

• Standard MHFA
• Older Person MHFA
• Blended/Online Community or Workplace MHFA
• Financial Services, Legal Professionals or Pharmacy MHFA
• Tertiary MHFA

 

What will I need?

All course learning resources, equipment and tools used for assessment are provided by SYC and are at no cost to students enrolled in the course.
