Course Overview

Our Building Links program is designed specifically for VET in Schools and tailored to provide students hands on experience in renovating and remodelling existing homes provided in partnership with South Australian Housing Authority (SAHA), while completing their accredited qualification, Certificate II in Construction Pathways. 

The program supports the skill development and knowledge growth of students, whilst preparing them with employability skills and work requirements, expectation and pathways. Working closely with schools, our program equips students with the foundations for a rewarding career in the Building and Construction industry.

Our program contributes to 40 Stage 1 SACE credits.
 
Course Content

This course combines structured workplace training on an actual live construction site, practical work sessions and theory-based learning. Our students develop skills and knowledge including:
General use of construction tools and equipment
Undertaking basic demolition work
Work Health and Safety requirements for working in the Building and Construction industry
Undertaking construction projects and works
Application of painting techniques for finishing and remodelling
Cost

$220.00 school contribution

Pathways

On successful completion of assessment requirements, the learner will be issued with a Certificate in CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways.
 
Delivery

Face to Face. 1 day per week, 8:30am – 3:00pm for the full school year (12 months)
Day of the week and site locations will be discussed and confirmed on enrolment as multiple options will be available

Core Units

  CPCCOM1012     Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry
  CPCCOM1013     Plan and organise work
  CPCCOM1015     Carry out measurements and calculations 
  CPCCVE1011      Undertake a basic construction project 
  CPCCWHS2001  Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction Industry 
Elective Units

  CPCCCA2011     Handle carpentry materials 
  CPCCCM2005     Use construction tools and equipment 
  CPCCPD2012     Use painting and decorating tools and equipment 
  CPCCPD3022     Apply paint by brush and roller 
  CPCCCM2009     Carry out basic demolition

The above units of competencies have been packaged based on the recommendation of industry experts through consultation and engagement practices. Variations to elective units can be discussed with your trainer/assessor upon enrolment.
 
Entry Requirements/Pre-requisites

Must complete an Upfront Assessment of Needs (UAN)
Must be 15 years of age or older
Students will need to provide their own Steel capped boots and long pants prior to commencement of the course. High visibility tops and general PPE will be provided
All learners must provide their USI upon enrolment
Learners must have already obtained and be able to provide a Statement of Attainment:  CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card).  This can be obtained through SYC Learning prior to course commencement  
All participants of the course must provide 100 points of identification with at least 1 form of photo identification
